Friday Feature: Michigan Weekend House

Summer is almost here and I’m still dreaming of renting a lake house for a week and disappearing with the family.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t dreaming of this last fall when I should have been to get the pick of the litter. So, I’d kind of put the thought aside and come to terms with a blow up pool in the backyard until I saw the latest issue of Chicago Home + Garden. This is one of my favorite issues in the last couple of years–one beautiful country house after another!  A favorite is the amazing weekend home of two Chicago area architects. How amazing would it be to spend every weekend here…

I can picture pulling up the driveway with my farmer’s market finds.  Don’t you love the simple grass in the center of the driveway–clean and modern and nothing to obscure the beauty of the home itself.

Note the use of exterior siding in the entryway–very smart use of materials both from an aesthetic perspective and from a practicality perspective…how tired am I of wiping down the walls in my entry from dogs and kids and it never comes out quite right.  Would be great to do the walls of a mudroom in (the right!) exterior siding for easy maintenance.

A book, a glass of wine and, well, nothing but one of these chairs…

Note the old barn door used to conceal a television–brilliant!

First week of posts behind us!  Thanks for reading and have a great weekend…wherever you’re spending it.

  1. Gives me some ideas on how to extend the summer house including the facade– it is always great to have a welcoming home for visitors, often friends and family who make a long trip …
The use of the barn door inside, as pictured, can also be used outside to cover windows in a practical way.

  2. what a gorgeous home! looks like they used that paneling throughout the entire house. i too am already tired of wiping marks/handprints off of flat-painted walls. ugh!
