Jewelry for Your Furniture

An easy way to breathe new life into a boring, old piece of furniture (or even into a boring new piece of furniture!) is by switching out the knobs or pulls. I LOVE the vintage, eclectic look of the hardware found at Anthropologie. Beautiful ceramic and glass pieces that transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

I have a dark wood cabinet being used as a console table in my entry way.

I’d love to add a little bling to it with new hardware like these brass and mother of pearl knobs

Or, maybe this one with a little red and blue in it like my runner. There’s nothing I don’t love about this knob–would be perfect to dress up a simple black IKEA dresser with these colorful guys

I love how hardware makes it easy to add a touch of whimsy to any room. My friend Carrie installed these lovelies (shown in pink, she chose clear) in her laundry room–her four year old daughter convinced her to get them and I think she chose brilliantly. I love how they add just a touch of femininity to the simple white cabinets.

Mercury glass is really popular right now so adding these knobs would be a great way to be on trend in an affordable way, but also bring a cool vintage look to a plain dresser.

If you’re on a little more of a budget and are willing to forego selection, I would check out Cost Plus World Market. They have many similar, even identical, knobs to Anthropologie at a lower price. For example both Anthropologie and Cost Plus offer a clear glass version of the mercury glass knob above. Anthropologie’s goes for $8 a knob and Cost Plus’s version is under $20 for four. Cost Plus also has a version of the bubbled glass knob (above) selling for about half the price–but not offered in different colors. We’re not talking huge dollars, but Cost Plus often has discount promotion codes available which would offer additional savings and every dollar adds up!

I used one of these round ceramic knobs from Cost Plus World Market in my guest room to dress up a garage sale side table that I painted white.

Such an easy change and what a big difference. So, don’t be afraid to try some new hardware–it’s a great way to add color and personality to your furniture.

  2. I always knew you were a knob-lover!

Not sure what that means exactly, but it sounded funny in my head.

Love this idea – you are so creative. That red one is SO you.
