Home Depot Lighting

While I definitely like Home Depot for my basic house needs I don’t consider them a great resource for products with good design–that is until now!  While searching online for some lighting, I found their ZUO line with has great design with a small price tag.

1. ZUO Amethyst
//2. ZUO Bronze //3.ZUO Sapphire//4.ZUO Cassius//5.Alpha Floor Lamp//6.ZUO Bradyon//7.ZUO Cascade

1.  Perfect light fixture for an entryway!  The bronze finish keeps it from looking too modern so that would blend in with traditional decor as well.

2.  I’ve been trying to figure out where I could incorporate this pendant light into my home–LOVE it!  I think it would be great in a kids bathroom and I could even see two of these over a rustic wood dining room table.

3.  This pendant has been one of my favorites for a long time.  It comes in two sizes and a nickel finish.  Would love to see the nickel finish in my office area and I think Tessa should put the bronze finish in her entryway. Now we just have to convince our husbands to let us change our light fixtures AGAIN.

4.  This one is a steal at 50.00!  Could look great in a girl’s nursery or bathroom or even over a huge soaking bathtub!

5.  While this is not a pendant light, I couldn’t help but include such a nice looking floor lamp.

6.  This is by far my favorite find at Home Depot.  Large enough in scale to be placed over a dining room table in a more formal setting or  I would love to see it over a rustic wood table.

7.  Everyone needs a little bling in their house!

I will definitely consider Home Depot one of my go-to stores from now on.  Happy Shopping!

Ikea Shopping

A week ago, I made myself a cup of coffee, sat down to read through my blog roll and opened up my computer to this:

Amy’s Computer-Sign of Death

The geniuses at Apple confirmed just what I had suspected….HARD DRIVE FAILURE!  Lucky for me, I’m extra cautious and had everything backed up on an external hard drive (I store this in a fire/water proof safe) and I also use Crash Plan which is an online back up system.  So, while I was sad to say goodbye to my white macbook.  I didn’t sweat it too much because I knew I would be up and running in no time.  However, it didn’t go as planned and I had to wait 5 days to get my new computer.  So, what do you do without a computer?

Shopping, of course!

My mom and sister-in-law were in town for a few days and they made sure I put an Ikea trip on our agenda.  Like always, I was giddy with joy when I saw a few new things.

This table was beautiful with a walnut veneer top and solid ash legs.  It looked very high end and would look great with any type  of dining room chair.

Stockholm Table

These light fixtures were adorable and would be great in a kids room, playroom or the black/gold one in a dining

A great solution for kid’s shoe storage and bench by the door.  This little bench comes in a variety of colors.

Still one of my favorite chairs! Now it has a matching ottoman.

Tessa and I love the Expedit system and now it comes in a high-gloss finish and a ton of different colors including, this hot pink!

These green bins caught my eye when I noticed the price of 1.49!

Love this bedding for a boy’s room.

Such cute bedding for a girl’s room if you are trying to steer away from the usual pink.

A pillow to match or I think this would be a great pop of color in a living room.

My favorite desk from Ikea now comes in two different lengths.

This bath hand towel was just so cheery looking that I couldn’t resist snapping a photo.

Still, my favorite item EVER from Ikea.  These drying racks can mounted on a wall and fold flat when not in use.

And, my adorable sister-in-law holding up a coffee cup for my brother, an avid hunter.

Enjoy the weekend and we will see you back here on Monday!

Get the Look: Rustic Modern Dining Room

You know that one of our favorite looks for dining rooms is a mixture of rustic and modern. We were searching for lighting for a client’s home and came across this picture. Gorgeous right? A perfect balance of rustic/traditional and modern.

Avenue B Development

Here’s how I would recreate this dining room:

Get the Look- Rustic Modern Dining Room

A rustic wood table from World Market (1) grounds the space. Because it doesn’t have the grey undertones of the inspiration shot, I chose a greige tone for the walls (2) in Anew Gray by Sherwin Williams (Benjamin Moore’s Rockport Grey is another rick greige color) to pull a little more grey into the room.

I’m in love with this Bling Chandelier by Robert Abbey. At about $1700, this large version would definitely be a splurge though (well worth it in my mind!) so I’ve chosen a replica from (3) for the design. The size is much smaller, so I would recommend hanging two above this large table.

For the chairs, a clean, modern acrylic chair (4) is the perfect contrast to the heavy table. IKEA has a more affordable version called the TOBIAS, but with chrome legs–a good alternative. The inspiration shot brings in a pop of color in a raspberry paint. Instead, I’d choose to mix up the chairs by choosing two upholstered chairs in a fun, bright contemporary pattern. This just adds to the eclectic feeling of the room. Unfortunately this particular chair from Anthropologie is no longer available, but you could reupholster a couple of old chairs with this fabric –  Braemore Journey Fruitty – for a similar look. (As a side note, this ikat fabric would also make an amazing headboard fabric!)

The problem with this line of work is that I’m constantly discovering new things that make me second guess the decisions I’ve made in my own home. Now I want this look! Do you like the mix of rustic and contemporary pieces? BTW, as I wrote this post, I was sitting on my couch watching Bravo and eating Garrett’s popcorn…I think I overdosed on caramel/cheese combo and am now headed to bed feeling sick. Another issue with this line of work I guess…
