Our Perspective on an Office/Dining Room: Part 3

In yesterday’s post we revealed our perspective on Julie’s office space/dining room.   Yesterday we did the entire space and today we are going to share a design board for the same area, but this time we let Julie keep her current desk.

Reminder of what the space looks like now:

And here is the design board we came up with while still using the current desk:

Office

1.  When an office space is in an open room it’s important to streamline all of the knick-knacks and keep the clutter at bay. To keep office supplies hidden we would suggest using decorative wooden boxes.   Also, a small pretty bowl will hold any other small office supplies she needs to grab on a whim.  An office space is not complete without a place to hang notes so using a gray grasscloth bulletin board adds texture to the room and keeps that neutral palette that Julie loves and wants to work the space around. Finally, we chose a skinny lamp with a small base that adds warmth but doesn’t take up a lot of desktop space.
2.  To the right of the desk is a large blank wall that would be a perfect spot for a ‘mini’ wall gallery to bring some color into the room.   For the windows, adding curtains will frame them and add a ‘cozy’ feeling to the room.
3.  A traditional looking chair blends nicely with her clean-lined desk.  She plans to keep her yellow walls so a dark indigo color goes well without competing with the walls, plus, we can’t resist things that are tufted!
4.  As you saw in yesterday’s post we would suggest using two storage ottomans to hold all of her office supplies.  Because her front door is in this room the two ottomans can also serve as a spot for people to sit and put on shoes or even as extra seating in the adjacent living room.

  1. I had no idea my desk could look so great! I’m madly in love with that bamboo lamp! We have so much to think about now, thank you Tessa and Amy. I will keep you posted on how the design project goes.
