Trend Alert: Embroidered Pillows

We all know crafting is back in full force…have any of you not bought at least one thing off Etsy.com in the last year?? Or maybe you’ve found yourselves pulling out your wallet more than once at a Renegade Craft Fair (this fair takes over my old neighborhood in Chicago every year and inevitably I’d find myself drawn to random things like an owl whittled out of driftwood!) With the reemergence of the Crafty set, is also coming big trends in home decor…like needlepoint and embroidered pillows…right, who would have thought that these would be making a big comeback?! When i think of embroidery or needlepoint, I kind of think old school grandma/country decor. But, I’ve been seeing a lot of them in design magazines lately and they’re making a big comeback in a whole new way. So, if you didn’t spend your pillow allowance on the fab fab.com ones Amy posted about on Friday, then here are some other options.

Jonathan Adler has embraced the trend big time–this would be really sweet in a child’s room

Pottery Barn also gets in on the trend by combining it with a contemporary looking zig zag

I like the metallic threat on this pillow from Crate & Barrel–I’d pair it with a graphic red pillow

Or for a more monochromatic look, pair it with one of these amazing pillows by Judy Ross Textiles–love the combo of Ric Rak and embroidery…how two totally old school things come together for a completely modern look! If you like embroidered pillows, definitely check out the Judy Ross Textiles site–LOTS of beauties.

This one also from C&B takes a cue from the Suzani craze and modern ethnic design–on sale at 16.95, it’s an easy and affordable way to embrace the embroidery trend without feeling committed.

But, don’t worry, embroidery hasn’t gotten too full of itself that you can’t find one of those amazing DIY welcome signs. 😉

So go get crafty and know you’ll be super trendy while you’re doing it! And I thought my days as a hipster were over…
