Looking to make a change in your bedroom? Consider switching up your bed and doing an interesting “headboard”.
You may remember from a post last year, that I bought a screen that didn’t work in Amy’s house and used it as a headboard in my guest room:
Here are some other interesting options to consider for a headboard…
This is a great idea from Style at Home–would also work great if you have a random window i your room–just fit it out with a flat roman shade and you’ve got a headboard!
I’m kind of obsessed with maps and globes so I love this idea of doing a statement wall behind the bed in lieu of a headboard.
Not interested (or live in a rental and can’t) wallpapering, IKEA has a large map that could be used behind the bed. Here it is in Amy’s basement playroom–would look great behind a twin or double bed for a little boy with graphic green duvet cover!
I’m not a huge fan of these decal headboards, but if you’re looking for kind of a cheap, low-maintenance option it’s definitely something to consider. It’s also a fun option if you like to change up decor a lot. Blik Wall Decals offers some good ones:
You could also use this decal as a pattern of sorts and either paint a headboard or use wallpaper to create a headboard in that shape (I like the yellow, but there’s a whole lot of white space on that wall still–could look super cool with a graphic, removable wallpaper cut to fit in it!) Love this one from a home feature on Design Sponge:
Or, hit up your local Home Depot for some trim and frame it out…
I’d paint the trim a bright color, make it a little shorter and put some modern art above it so it looks more like a headboard and a little less country.
Finally, what about going for a (severely) updated version of the Urban Outfitters hipster look by using a beautiful textile behind your bed. See how Martyn Lawrence Bullard used a gorgeous Suzani in the Colony Palms Hotel.
So get creative in the bedroom (well, headboard anyway!)
