A Perfect Day

Hope everyone had a great long weekend (well, US readers anyway…my Canadian friends had last Monday off!) It really was a great weekend here. Saturday, Amy and I headed up to beautiful Saugatuck, Michigan for a day with a new client. We’re working with her and her husband as they transition to a smaller home. They could not have been more gracious and made our day a dream break from hectic life with kids…no seriously, it was a dream day…for 14 hours (not that anyone was counting) all we had to do was focus on things we love: great clients, design work, eating and even squeezed in a little antiquing.

We started off our day hitting up a road-side estate sale where Amy nabbed some milk glass for $1/piece

and I nabbed a stool for $15 that I think I’m going to recover with a flokati and use it in my living room-love the brass feet!

After a great day with our clients, we decided to get out of bed time (hence show up after 8 PM central!) and headed over to this fabulous little restaurant called Everyday People Cafe in Douglas, Michigan that came highly recommended. On the way to Douglas, we drove through Holland and couldn’t help but pull the car over at a few places…

At AMSTERDAM on the road into Saugatuck (definitely worth pulling over for this place!) we spotted this amazing brass chandelier–this will show up in someone’s house we know for sure!

We also came across these amazing designer vintage wire rockers–at $1200 for the pair, it was no steal, but wow. The chairs behind were half the price if you loved the shape, but didn’t need to rock.

And I could have taken like 10 of these stools home with me–the lines are so perfect and you could leave them as is, or do a fun, bright color.

Then, headed in Holland we hit up Three Chairs Co. the local Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams retailer. Beautiful little store with a friendly staff ready to help you find that perfect piece of furniture.

Loved their wall of bar stools–we have our eyes on the wire one and the low-back wood one in the bottom row for a project…

Finally made it into Douglas and managed to sneak into Upscale Mercantile for a few minutes to check out their selection of vintage pieces like this chrome/leather stool (and check out the wood/glass coffee table and vintage metal letters in the background)

and these great mirrors (definitely have a couple of projects that could use one of these too!)

Topped off a great day with a fabulous meal at Everyday People Cafe and a to-die-for dessert of peanut butter s’mores…we rolled out of the restaurant into the car for our three hour drive home.

Great day! Thanks to Adaire and Mark for their hospitality–such great people to work with. You’ve convinced us this little part of the world is definitely worth exploring more!

Oh, and then on Sunday, I made this cake for Madeleine’s 3rd bday! This is the first cake I’ve ever made (other than a standard sheet cake) so sorry if you already saw this picture on FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. etc. I’m showing off and since I may never do this again I need to bask in the glory of my martha-ness!!
