One of my resolutions this year was to finally replace our entryway light. If you remember it looks like this:
There’s nothing really wrong with this light fixture but if you remember from this post, I have always wanted to replace it with something a little more fun. I was so close to purchasing one from from Ballard Designs but, for some reason, I hesitated and kept going back to something that would look like it was more original to the house.
I kept looking at this one:
I was a little hesitant to order because it seemed too good to be true since it was priced at 99.00! I also wasn’t too crazy about the crystal dangling from the bottom but I figured there was a way I could remove it. According to all of the reviews, it seemed most people said it was a great light that looked high end. I took the plunge and ordered it and within three days it was at my doorstep.
It took another four hours before I convinced my husband he needed to hang it immediately. And, I should mention it comes UNASSEMBLED. Which meant I had to string all of the crystals myself. Not difficult, just a little time consuming.
I love how it looks like it was part of the house when it was built in 1924. I think lighting is such a great way to add character and personality to a space. By the way, you will notice a small gap between the light fixture and ceiling–my husband was able to install the light but it needs some adjusting.
It’s really pretty when the light is turned on and the shadows it makes on the ceiling.
At 99.00 this light fixture is a steal but if you need something bigger or fuller, check out some of my other picks I had my eye on while searching.
Just remember you don’t have to have the same style of lighting throughout your home. It’s okay to mix traditional and modern light fixtures. This gives your home some personality and interest.
Love it! We just changed out a fixture too. . . got a new on at Pottery Barn outlet and it looks part of our house too from the 20’s. Will send you a pic!
Laura-please send us a photo, would love to see your new light fixture in the room.
