Five Home Decor Solutions for Renters

Drove ten hours back from Georgian Bay area of Ontario on Saturday and I’m still totally brain dead. Also the first day of school in Evanston today. Dropping my eldest off at Kindergarten–he’s ready and (I think) I’m ready… I’ll let you know how it goes!Ā So, figured I’d just do a quick post on a few things I’ve filed away recently for people who live in rentals and may be looking for affordable, easy ways to update their spaces.

Wallpaper is really popular right now, but you would definitely lose your security depositĀ if you decided to put wallpaper glue on your landlord’s walls! Try this Zee Wallpaper from Urban Outfitters instead. I haven’t tried it myself yet, but apparently it’s easy on/off…such a fun way to dress up your walls!

This removable vinyl “wallpaper” is a great option for an updated kitchen backsplash where replacing tile just isn’t an option.

Is your problem a little farther down…say on the floor? As your landlord if you can pretty things up with this awesome marble-look vinyl flooring? Just peel and stick these too! Check out the result in designer Caitlin Wilson’s . Also, while I’m not normally a fan of accent walls, if you’re in a rental where your landlord is going to make you repaint everything when you leave, pick one wall and go bold to add some dimension and interest, but little work on the back end!

Also in the kitchen, give those dated appliances a little pick me up with these peel and stick covers

Looking to the outside, theĀ Platta decking from IKEA is a great solution for those ugly cement patios that you don’t want to invest your own money in to fix up (and obviously your landlord doesn’t either…)

Anyone else have any other good suggestions?
