…my home and native land…
I grew up in Canada and while I’ve lived in the US for almost 20 years (yikes when did that happen?!) I still wave the red, white and maple leaf. Living in Ottawa (the capital!) Canada Day was a very special time with huge celebrations on Parliament Hill. So, in honor of Canada Day on Sunday, July 1st, I’m celebrating Canadian-inspired decor.
I saw the next two ideas in Canada’s Style at Home magazine which has some great Canada Day ideas on their site right now (as a transplant I treat myself to that and Canadian House & Home magazine.)
Everyone in Canada knows the Hudson’s Bay Company colors and this blanket is a Canadian staple.
I’m definitely ordering this for the chair in my son’s room!
Or, he’d love this above his bed. A little cliche maybe, Canada and a moose, but resin animal busts are hot in home decor right now–I love the sense of humor a moose head would bring to a room.
This radio would look great sitting on my kitchen counter or in my husband’s office
I’ve said it before, I love ikat–these are a great way to bring a trend into your Canada Day decor, but they’d get used well beyond Canada Day.
Or, maybe just go all out Canadiana and decorate a full room in red and white. With the one below, I could really remind my daughter, Madeleine, that she’s part Canadian by doing a bold red and white big girl’s bedroom.
Ok, a little over the top, but I do like the red and white palette so maybe something in the same colors, but a little more subtle like this:
Happy Canada Day to all my friends and family up north!
Have a wonderful weekend-we’ll be posting next week, but with the holiday, our posts might be a little lighter.
Hudson Bay Company (think it is American owned now!) — carries such a history, and their signature blankets were often part of a young woman’s trousseau. They never go out of style!
love that blanket! and the fun wallpaper in the bedroom.
Hi Tess

ha! I was just packing up my hudson bay blanket for sunday’s shoots! Love them!
