Miss yesterday’s kitchen renovation? Here’s a shot of our friend Bridget’s gorgeous new kitchen…and to make it easier on all of us, she’s shared all her sources below! You can see more detailed pics in yesterday’s post.
In talking with Bridget, fresh off the renovation, she was able to share some really good thoughts–here are her top five tips for taking on a kitchen renovation:
1. Give yourself the time to really research your choices and figure out what you love. She really wanted to feel like the design choices were hers and reflected her personal style, so researching little by little way ahead of time was the way to go.
2. Learn from the pros at the places you’re buying from. Most design stores have on-staff designers so use that resource! According to Bridget, the designers at Ann Sacks (tile) gave invaluable advice. Bring your current design choices in and let them help build different looks. For example, they suggested 2×6 tiles vs. 3×6 tiles to keep it a bit more contemporary.
3. I love this one…If you love something, find a way to incorporate it into your kitchen bc it will make you happy everyday! Bridget really wanted crystal knobs, but worried they would look a bit too “old lady”. But, she went with what she loves and they make her smile every day.
4. Listen to the experts and learn from their depth of experience. Bridget’s architect Marc Hauser provided excellent advice on making sure kitchen changes flowed with the rest of the house.
5. Lastly, invite yourself over to friends’ houses for meals during the actual reno!
