Big Girl Room: The Plan

I’ve started the process of transforming my daughter’s nursery into a big girl room. I’ve got a little more than two months until this baby comes along so I need to get things in gear and at the very least, get Madeleine out of her crib and get the crib moved into the new nursery.

I’ve decided to keep her existing window treatment–a really fun, bold patterned roman shade–her sheepskin rug, the IKEA pendant light and the white bookcase. All the other furniture–glider, crib and dresser/changing table will move to the new baby’s room. So, thought I’d share the plan (of course as it currently stands–always subject to change!)…

You can get sources for everything by clicking on the little pictures above. I’m taking the plunge and I’m going to paint the ceiling pink! The walls right now are a tan so I’m going to see how they look with the pink ceiling and have a very pale blue (white with a tinge of blue) ready if I don’t like the new ceiling with the existing color. The blue and pink will also be pulled into the bedding–still need to find some fun sheets that will make the room feel young and fun for a toddler so the room doesn’t feel too “old.”

The bed is an upholstered one (I’ll be doing a twin whereas this pic is a queen) from Cost Plus World Market. I’m thinking of doing sconces on either side of her bed and a little garden stool as a side table. I’ll also add a little table and a couple of poufs for art projects, tea parties, whatever M’s imagination can conjure up!

Art for the walls is TBD. Painter comes tomorrow so I’ll update you all with pics of the ceiling next week! And don’t forget you can still save 20% at Number Four Eleven by using code TWOINSPIRED through Sunday!

  1. Madeleine is a lucky big girl! This looks so beautiful Tessa! Congratulations on your work, I always love to read your posts.

  2. I love it! Also when I was little (since we share the same name) my mom wanted to cut out pages from the “Madeline” book’s and frame them. Or other cute photo books with art look really nice framed of nursery rhymes etc. Also that old map place on Central Street sometimes has cute children theme prints. Just ideas!

  3. what a milestone, looks lovely! Can I recommend a peruse on Etsy for prints or art – I’ve found some really lovely prints for Coco’s room there (I can even find you the artists I bought from).
