Wrapping Christmas gifts is one of my favorite things about the holiday season. I must admit, I start wrapping early so that I don’t get burned out–that’s the key to making your packages look pretty. Otherwise, you get in a rush because you’ve waited until the last minute and then you scramble to finish resulting in some not-so-nice looking presents.
We attend several Christmas celebrations throughout the week and because we are always going to a different place it’s important to be able to grab gifts quickly when heading out for our next gathering. One way to keep everything organized is to use different wrapping paper or different colored ribbon for each event. I tend to wrap all of my gifts using a variety of paper but choose different color ribbon to separate and identify my in-laws’ gifts from my own family’s gifts. This year, my husband’s family gets blue ribbon and my family gets red…
Next, gift tags. I have custom made gift tags made every year from a shop on Etsy because I think they add an extra special touch to each present. I also attach them to neighbor edible gifts and teacher gifts. Here’s my choice for this year…
I (meaning Santa) also assign a different wrapping paper to each of my children. It saves labels and time! Of course this wrapping paper doesn’t make an appearance on any other gifts–only the kiddos’ gifts.
Most of my presents are wrapped already but I pinned a few wrapping paper ideas to store away for next year. If you haven’t wrapped your gifts yet here are some great ideas.
Love the idea of not wasting all of that newspaper. Baker’s twine is so cheap and lasts forever…perfect complement to wrapping a gift in newspaper. And I love these red letter labels–same idea as my individually chosen wrapping paper. Each letter represents someone in the family so it’s easy to identify who gets which gift.
The simplicity of a ribbon with a die-cut on top is perfection and if you have to take presents to a gathering you don’t need to worry about bows getting smashed.
Such a cute idea and would be fun to use the inside of the tree as the gift tag–now that’s one gift tag you wouldn’t have to worry about falling off.
Another example of using baker’s twine–so simple and perfect! Also a nice way to wrap Valentine’s gifts so you can save that Christmas paper until February!
What child wouldn’t want a candy cane or a big lollipop attached to his or her gift? Ikea sells huge rolls of white art paper that would be great for wrapping gifts.
For all of those kids who want to wrap their own presents this year, here are some cute but doable ideas. Let them be in charge of ‘creating’ their own wrapping paper.
Maybe the above is too hard for your toddler but I think any 2 or 3 year old would love glueing on felt balls to make a decoration.
One last tip–use double sided tape. It will give your present that professional look and doesn’t take any extra time. Okay, I’m signing off because I still have a few stocking stuffers left to wrap (yup, those get wrapped too!)
Absolutely love your gift tags, and the newspaper with red and white twine is beyond cute! I just saw some of that twine today at the Container Store and wondered how someone would ever use that — now I wish I had bought some!
Amy… This is out of control! And I LOVE it! In my dreams I am this creative and organised! Awesome post!
