I LOVE lists, I make lists for road trips, home maintenance, grocery store runs (organized by aisle, of course), Target, daily errands and I could go on and on. Lists keep me focused and productive. Earlier this week I started thinking about summer and then the thought of my five year old going off to Kindergarten next fall popped in my head. It was then that I realized I MUST make every second count this summer. So, I decided to introduce my kids to the beauty of list making. For the record, they thought this was super cool!
Here’s what I call our Summer To-Do. This is to help ensure we will get to all those places the kids have been asking to go to and forces me to plan ahead. If Baby #3 wasn’t due in July, I would definitely add a few places. But letting go of control (super hard for me) I let them come up with all of the ideas with no opinion from mom.
The kids chose to post our list on the pantry door. This is a perfect spot in our house because we go to the pantry at least a dozen times a day and it will be a constant reminder about what we have left to accomplish.
My list seemed to be very simple to create, I used butcher paper from Ikea, a few different colored markers and of course, my limited drawing skills. But then I thought to myself there has to be more list-frenzy people like myself who have done this before. What better place to look than PINTEREST. I. couldn’t. believe. all of the fun and creative ways to make a summer-to do list. Seriously, check it out yourself. But here are a few of my favorites:
This blogger even took the time to incorporate cute scrapbook paper onto her board. This is also a great visual board because when you’ve completed the task, you could just flip over the card.
This is adorable and I think would be really easy to use not just during summer but throughout the year when a weekend of no-plans hits. Although, does that ever happen with kids?
I love this one just for all of the summer ideas. This would be a nice format for older kids who don’t need all of the visual and could just put an X through the box when the activity is completed.
This list is so bright and colorful. I love the idea of using a dry erase marker to make the list. Oh, think of all the lists I could make throughout the year…Fall To-Do, Holiday To-Do, Winter To-Do, etc. This could be a permanent fixture in your house.
But when it comes down to making summer plans, there are actually only three things you REALLY need to do:
Enjoy the beginning of summer!
Awesome Amy! Thanks for helping me figure out how to organize my mind and our activities for the summer!
Love the lists! Like the Adventureland with cousins! Looking forward to it!
