PB Kids Zig Zags Away from Their Norm

I get a thousand catalogs (I actually feel guilty every time one comes in the mail and call the customer service numbers of ones I don’t want) and I often can’t get through them all so they go in a “I’ll deal with this later” pile in my office. I know Amy cringed as she read that–it’s just so disorganized sounding! So, this weekend I finally went through a pile and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw from PB Kids. Admittedly, Pottery Barn Kids is not one of my favorite stores. It’s generally a little too “themey” and traditional for me. Yes, the flower, sea and zoo rooms are all still there, but it looks like PB Kids is catching up with some of my favorite trends.  As a side note, I might get flack for not supporting the traditional themed kids rooms, but my biggest peeve about them is that they don’t grow with a child and feel dated quickly. We’ll definitely do a nursery post with all our POVs shortly though since Amy is decorating for #3 right now.

Anyway, back to PB Kids…

I’m eyeing this dhurrie in gray or lime green for my son’s room. Chevron is still going strong and since these aren’t expensive, it’s a fun way to bring a trend into any room.

Remember, you can shop for any room at these kids’ stores and they’re often better prices than “regular” stores. The dhurrie would look great in a living room or master bedroom. Another example is this pendant light–at $179  for a 12″ diameter one, it’s 100 bucks cheaper than the polished nickel pendants at Restoration Hardware. Yes, different shape, but a couple of these would look really cool in a contemporary kitchen over an island so consider looking at things differently than how they’re styled in the catalog.

I’ve always liked the Raleigh upholstered bed from Pottery Barn with a large nailhead trim along the edge and it’s now available in a twin size, different colors and with personalization through PB Kids.

Love these simple, banded roman shades available in eight different colors. Best part? They’re  black out–a must for any parent…I mean, child.

They have some fun bedding includes a chevron patterned crib sheet (my recommendation is do NOT put the crib sheet and the dhurrie in the same nursery or it’ll look like overload and you might just go cross-eyed!) This elephant pattern reminds me of Indian block prints. It comes in a crib sheet as well. Unfortunately it’s already sold out in the twin size–PB Kids, keep the good stuff in stock!!

Picture this bedding on a clean-lined bed like this one from Room & Board for a fun, contemporary look.

Although neither of us uses bumpers, I do love me some ikat–and love me even more, some ikat on sale.

This sheet would look great on its own–no bumper or bed skirt for a simpler look.

Nice to see PB Kids mixing it up a little so definitely check them out if you haven’t in a while.

  1. i love that you posted this because i was thinking of getting something from pb teen for our bedroom! there really are some gems if you’re able to look past their cheesy staging. what do you think about one of those chevron rugs in our kitchen, to replace the red dhurrie in there now? wish they had a lighter blue…would the gray be too matchy-matchy boring with the gray walls?
