Last week, this beauty arrived on my doorstep…
It’s a faux antler chair (from what I can tell from a little research, it’s actually made out of resin) that belonged to my husband’s grandmother. She died a couple of years ago at 100 and was an amazing feisty lady with a great sense of style. This chair was in her house forever–my husband can’t remember a time when he didn’t see his Grandma sitting in it. It’s gorgeous and special in so many ways and when my mother-in-law sent it, we were thrilled. Now, just trying to figure out where it should go in the house–right now it’s in my living room, but I’ll be trying it out in different places.
Here’s a pic from Elle Decor of a very similar (if not the same!) chair in the living room of designer Nina Grisom. Love how it creates a rustic feel to the room without it feeling too “western” and gimmicky.
Antlers are hot right now. I’ve been seeing them in so many design magazines–and especially love how they bring an instant cozy feeling of fall into your home. Remember, keep it in moderation (I’m talking one piece) and you’ll add a touch of whimsy (one could say, a little rock and roll…) add more and it could look a little too country.
They’re perfect decor over a fireplace and these faux ones used by designer Tom Filicia in a NYC apartment:
You can buy these single antlers right now at chain stores like Pottery Barn and Z Gallerie
Other chain stores like Restoration Hardware (and PB) have antler chandeliers available right now
A great way to modernize the look is to paint the chandelier a bright color like these two examples. I love the idea of painting one navy blue and using it in a little boy’s room.
In a bit of a different vein is this fun little table–the silver finish gives it some bling
Love it or a little too much for you? I think sometimes it’s fun to take a little chance and add something unusual to your home.
That chair brings back so many fond memories — so glad that you guys have it now. Enjoy it and cherish it as much as Grandma did — I can’t wait to see where in your house it ends up!
i LOVE THIS CHAIR. KNOW IT IS IN GOOD HANDS AND LOVE IT IN THE LIVING ROOM. A GREAT CONVERSATION PIECE.
