Great Find: Costco Sheepskin Rug

One thing Amy and I love to do is share a great find and if you love sheepskin rugs like we do, you’ll love this one (as a side note, I used to be alone in my love for these, but Amy is on board as of this week…see why below!) I love sheepskins because they’re cozy and provide excellent texture to a room.

They’re especially perfect for children’s rooms. (BTW, don’t miss the ceiling in the nursery below…phenomenal and the perfect balance to the relatively simple decor in the room.)

This is one of my all-time favorite nurseries (me and thousands of others!) and while there’s so much that is great about it, one of my favorite things is how the sheepskin adds dimension to the room.

A couple of years ago when I was looking for a floor covering for my daughter’s small nursery, I knew I wanted a large sheepskin. At lot of places have them (including affordable options like IKEA and Overstock) but I actually ended up finding mine at Costco! Yup, into the cart with my vat of hummus and paper towels went a beautiful sheepskin for Madeleine’s room. (Sorry the light is terrible in this room so pic isn’t the best.)

I love the way it looks, but honestly it’s also functional in that it’s about 5.5-6 feet long and three feet wide so it’s big enough to sleep on…and yes, I’ve spent a few nights sleeping on the floor of a sick baby’s room, but luckily I was pretty comfy! At at only $129 it’s a great option for a floor covering and has held up perfectly. So, when Amy was decorating her nursery for the new baby, I tried to convince her to get a sheepskin. She wanted a simple jute floor covering so like the inspiration bedroom above (second picture of master bedroom) so we discussed the Costco rug as a good complement. Luckily last week, I was doing my monthly “stock-up on huge amounts of everything” trip to Costco and spotted this:

Amy decided to take a chance and now LOVES it–and baby William is happy lying on something super soft.

They seem to be available only in store so I recommend you get there quickly…soon enough the giant blow up Christmas reindeers will be taking up their aisle space!

  1. Hi, i would like to know where i can buy these beautiful white sheep skin rugs? because costco sold out and dont know when they will recieve more…

    1. Hi Anna–Costco carries them on and off. Unfortunately you can’t predict (and the store won’t tell you) when they get new shipments in. I’ve seen them there many times in the previous two years though. Ikea carries a similar one (although the quality isn’t quite as good) and you can find good, affordable options at Overstock.com sometimes as well. Good luck!

  2. I’m actually secretly obsessed with Maddy’s rug…It’s so comfortable to kneel on when talking/reading to her. I always tell my mom about it but unfortunately we have black-haired animals…not a good combination. But you are also not alone! I love it too!

  3. I love this topic. Its strange as I just bought two more last week – one for each girls room. I find myself going out of my way to walk across it, it is so cozy. We also use them during the holidays when entertaining and need extra chairs in the dining room. I put them over the Ikea foldable chair and it is funny how guests never want to get up (wait maybe that’s the wine?).

I am interested in a larger one to replace the one in the playroom that is frequently moved into the Living Room when we have a fire in the fireplace. I will ask my friend to pick up a bigger one and I will bring it back to Germany at Christmas. Thanks for the tip!
