You either love your lazy susan or you don’t. I personally love having one in my kitchen and couldn’t live without it. It’s definitely a great concept IF you know how to organize it so it doesn’t look like this:
The person this belongs to shall remain nameless but let’s just say they wanted my help in tackling the problem. But, before I helped this “person” I went on a search for how people organize their own lazy susans–just for a different perspective than how I am using mine. Ultimately, there are so many different ways to organize your lazy susan, but keep these few tips in mind to help maximize the space.
1. Store large items, not small items.
I choose to store small appliances and heavy dishes because it makes it so much easier to access these items. Storing them in a lazy susan means I don’t have to move things around to get to a particular item. It’s a great spot for my dutch oven because it’s so heavy. I store this on the top shelf because I’m lazy and Susan helps me. (sorry I couldn’t help it)
2. Sometimes you have no choice but to store smaller items inside your lazy susan. If this is the case then think about grouping them using containers or baskets to store. Baskets allow you to keep like items together and prevent it from becoming a mess.
3. If using a lazy susan for baking items, look for containers that can be stacked to maximize your space. Never store baking products like flour in its original bag…have you ever had to clean a lazy susan after a bag of flour spills everywhere? Not fun!
4. But most importantly, keep it simple….don’t use it to store a ton of items that will just get sucked into the abyss. Choose a theme and stick with it.
Happy Organizing! Tomorrow, I’ll show you how we applied the inspiration from the today’s photos to the mess above.
I have a lazy Susan and I am now inspired……..thanks!!
Recently did a kitchen and used two types from IKEA.
The more traditional lazy susan I use for lighter items since one has to bend down and lift. The other one has a pull out feature (I think it takes up about 48″ on the under-counter, but manages to use all the corner space). The pull out feature makes items readily available.
I would not recommend them for above counter corner cabinets, however because there is a lot of wasted space. I would just put in shelving and then you can put large items (serving trays, etc.) in that space.
