I’m no stranger to change–it wasn’t unusal for me growing up to come home from school and find that my mom had re-arranged the living room. She was notorious for doing this every season and always found a way to change things up in our house without buying anything new. So no surprise that I can’t contain my own urges to constantly rearrange my living room!
Here’s a photo of my living room from the kitchen
But, of course, I’ve gotten antsy and have been looking for ways to open up the room more. One of my favorite views in my house is standing in the living room looking through our kitchen dining area and out to the backyard–I love how the built-ins frame things up, the simple table and Eames chairs and how the sun comes through the back windows. So, I decided to make that view even more open by moving around the couch and chairs. This also creates an easier walking path from our front door, through the living room to the kitchen.
Here’s what the room looks like now:
I’m loving this new set-up now. It feels so much more comfortable and I like how the fireplace has become the focus of the room. So when you’re tired of a room don’t rush out and buy new items, take a look around and see if any of the furniture can be re-arranged. This might satisfy your thirst for change and buying something new.
Gorgeous home! Love the built ins and French doors. Is your home vintage?
Pinned your artwork solutions, thanks for the inspiration from a fellow Chicago blogger.
Hi! Great to hear from another Chi blogger. Yes, Amy’s home is an older Colonial. The built-ins, however, were added…another one of our experiments in our respective homes. 😉
