March Design Challenge: Mix Patterns

So, now that you have all your art supplies in check from our January organization challenge, we thought we’d throw you a quick design challenge. This month, we’re looking to mix it up. So, pick a room and go a little wild. We want to hear how you’ve mixed patterns up in your house. For a little inspiration, here are some amazing examples of using pattern.

Designer Meredith Heron’s rowhouse in Toronto is a study in mixing patterns–I mean, how fabulous is this living room?!?

And in her dining room, again you see the mix

In the same blue, red, white palette as Heron’s living room is this bedroom by Jenny Wolf Interiors–Serena & Lily and John Robshaw are two of my favorite textile sources and this room uses them both!

Mixing patterns in the same color family is definitely an easier and safer way to go, but might be a good starting point if you’re apprehensive to make the leap!

The lesson? Don’t overthink coordinating your patterns and take a chance! Pillows are such an easy way to mix things up or use different patterns in your bedroom or another private space where you won’t feel as “judged” by guests.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes in your own home by leaving a comment or posting on our Facebook page.
