So last year I was at an estate sale and there was this amazing cowhide rug. I was staring at it for five minutes humming and huhhing and as I turned to tell my daughter not to touch something (NEVER bring kids to an estate sale!) this woman came and grabbed the rug out from under me. Arghhhhhh. It was in perfect shape and at $95 was a total steal.
I really like the look of a cowhide layered over another rug–creates great texture and movement in the room. Whether it’s a natural cowhide or one with a zebra print, it adds a really fun element to a room.
Remember this picture? The cowhide in this photo really keeps the room casual and interesting so it got me thinking about the layering of hides and other rugs.
Hides look especially fabulous over sisal or jute rugs–the textures and tones really complement one another well.
I love this living room–the cowhide over the sisal adds a cool, interesting texture to the floor since they’ve chosen to go with color in the furniture and accessories vs. the floor. (side note–that TV is hung just too high! Talk about tough on the neck!)
Cowhide is a great way to add interest through texture and layering in a more monochromatic room
Just looking online is your best resource for hides. I found this one on eCowHides.com for under $200.
Not sure how to go about the whole layering process? I was so excited when I saw this graphic on the blog Dilly Dallas–so clever and helpful.
I know not everyone is into having a hide on their floor , so if you’re not into it so much, Amy’s got a cool alternative tomorrow.
