Fashioning a Room: Black and White

Black and white is such a hot fashion trend for the spring and as always, we’re seeing that creep into home decor. I’m not a huge fan of black and white (except in the kitchen) because I generally find it too stark, but here are some rooms that I think did it well…

Adore this dining room–the oversized black pendants are so dramatic against the simple table. The mixed chairs and dash of pink are light and fun and the bare floors actually keep the room warm because of the color. And a great idea to pull two clean-lined tables together to fill a big dining room.

The floors of this living room also keep it warm and tone down the drama. I’m now tempted to pull up all the rugs in my house. The Eames chairs around the table keep things casual. And, OMG, that light!

This bedroom is simple in its palette, but different textures create interest. That gallery wall is perfect.

I always talk about how I want my house to have more color and then I see a room like this playroom and color, shmuler…I need those storage baskets and Flor tiles!

Overstock.com has a super affordable (ok, downright cheap) rug like the one above

This bathroom has a 70s vibe to it with the graphic wallpaper and brass finishes.

An easy way is to incorporate a trend is through a shower curtain like this black and white chevron one from Etsy–get sick of black and white or suddenly over chevron and it’s an easy change.

This entry console is a little “much” for me, but what I took away from this picture is that covering a console table is a fun and easy way to bring trends into your house. I can see doing a similar cover for other spring trends like floral or ombre.
