My daughter, Maggie, is turning four in a week and all she wants for her birthday is a big girl room. Well, specifically a big girl bed.
If you remember, this is what her room currently looks like:

Okay, let’s face it, it never looks like the photo above. This is a more accurate photo.
As you can see, she needs lots of space in the middle of her room to play. Her room is a perfect square so a daybed will fit this space perfectly and still allow plenty of room to play. Plus, I think daybeds are adorable in girl’s rooms.
I came across this photo several months ago and tucked it away for when the time came to buy Maggie a big girl bed.
How awesome is the headboard fabric mixed with the rug pattern?
While I love the bookshelves, not sure I want the expense or the permanency of built-in bookshelves. Instead, I’m hoping to recreate the look using a few pieces from Ikea and thereby saving a few bucks.
I think this daybed is a great option because it’s one of the few that doesn’t have a back, allowing me to attach a headboard.
Bonus is the fact that it can expand to become a double bed–perfect for overnight guests.
Then, I’m thinking two of these narrow bookcases:
Adding sconces would be icing on the cake. I’m having a hard time finding ones that I LOVE but thinking something similar to these.
It would be very easy for me to fill Maggie’s room with fabrics that I love but I also don’t want it to look too ‘adult’ so this adorable ballerina fabric would give the room more of a child feel. I’m thinking a few of these for accent pillows on the bed.
A kid-friendly chevron stripe…reminds me of an atari game (did I just age myself?). The bright white background is a great contrast to the muted cream in the above fabric.
I love this somewhat of a muted fabric for the headboard.
Looks like I will be spending my weekend going to Ikea! I hope to show you the finished room soon.
Hi Amy, I love this! I am currently trying to find a daybed solution to my 6 year daughter’s perfectly square room. I want to do pink and turquoise though:). I love the ikea bed solution , but how where do I buy/ make the headboard piece? Thanks!
