Not that I want to be single–of course, I love my husband. But, sometimes I think about what my home would look like if I were living by myself. I never had the opportunity because I moved to California right out of college and could never afford my own place. At times, I had three roommates–that place was a little like Animal House!
When I opened my House Beautiful issue last night–after watching an episode of Downton Abbey (I’m not a TV watcher but decided to give it a go and I can’t stop watching it!) I was completely taken aback by the apartment they featured designed by Ashley Whittaker. It’s bold, stunning and a place I would dream of having IF I were single again–don’t think my husband could handle all of the pink!
Keep in mind this home is only 800 square feet, but the seating options make it seem much more spacious. Using a lucite coffee table allows you to see the floor which in turn makes the room appear larger.
The light gray walls create the perfect backdrop for all of the feminine pops of pink. A rug under the desk defines the office space from the living room space. Large pieces rather than several small pieces are a good choice for a room that is tight on space.
Wow! This entry is so bold and such a happy space. I love that the designer used such bold colors in a room that’s next to a room with such light and feminine colors.
I love, love, love the idea of wallpaper in the kitchen. Some people might think a bold pattern will make a room appear smaller but in this case, I think it makes the room look bigger. The yellow stool is adorable (perfect for my single girl life cup of morning coffee!) and a nice, unexpected pop of color.
Green geometric wallpaper next to grasscloth-does it get any better? I think not!
The simple nightstand is from Ikea and looks great next to a pretty headboard.
All you single ladies out there…..be bold and take some risks…while you can! While I certainly count myself lucky that I get to design a few kids’ rooms, there’s always a little part of me that wishes I had a little place that was all my own…
Love the kitchen wallpaper!
