Did all of you survive the sugar rush from last night’s festivities? It was raining here but that didn’t seem to stop my kids from running all over the neighborhood with their friends!
While I love to look at home features in magazines, sometimes I think the rooms look too perfect and not ‘lived in’ enough. In the August issue of Better Homes and Gardens, I found a feature were I could actually picture a family living in the house. BHG hasn’t posted the photos, so I decided to go ahead and scan some of my favorite ones of this comfy, family-friendly home with tons of style (and best of all–budget friendly!) Definitely worth picking up this month’s issue.
This first page made me want to jump inside and take in all of the special touches–notice the gold wishbone (I have this in my living room!) and python tray on the sleek coffee table.
I love how a beautiful chandelier was added to a relatively casual eat-in kitchen. This photo is a reminder that your dining room doesn’t need to be a “formal” dining room to add a chandelier–you know we love a good mixing of styles! It works in this room because the dining room chairs reflect the same formal look but the room remains casual because of the rustic, worn table and the fact that there is no rug under the table. Consider pulling up a rug in the dining room if you are trying to keep the space less formal.
If you have a small space, consider using an acrylic coffee table like this one to give you the functionality of a cofee table, but not look like it’s taking up the entire room. Love the casual wooden shutters in this room with such formal chairs.
This room is the perfect mix of classic and contemporary furniture. I think homes look so comfy, inviting and casual when these two styles are mixed together. Love the formal look of the gold mirror, paired with the contemporary bookshelf!
What a fun family room–I’d gladly take my kids to this home for a playdate!
A few things about this room pop out at me….love the brass chandelier that instantly makes this room feel like a luxury hotel room. Also, if your budget doesn’t allow you to purchase a rug that would cover the entire room, consider putting a sheepskin rug at the end of your bed to add texture to the room.
Enjoy the weekend-I’m off to steal all the Reese’s cups out of my kids’ Halloween candy!
