Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone! We’re finally getting out of the rush of the holidays to put up some new posts. The only evidence of Christmas in my house, are the lights that are still up outside.

Ok, let’s get the obvious out of the way….it is $^$%^&# freezing here. I grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and -30 C/-22 F is a pretty basic January temperature, but years in North Carolina and yes, even, Chicago, have made me soft and I have little interest in anything negative these days! This was the view out of my front window this morning as I tried to get my kids to swim class…

I had aspirations of doing my New Year’s Resolutions 2014 post today, but school is canceled so the kids are running wild and until they’re back at school, my list waits! So, instead

Have you seen American Hustle yet? I LOVED it. Loved the story, the characters, the fashion (I mean Amy Adams was GORGEOUS in it) and yes, loved me those seventies interiors. Here’s a look at Amy’s character’s Upper East Side apartment…

While the set screams 70s, it also, it would still be totally chic today. Individually the pieces are all amazing and totally relevant. Square-armed furniture, check. Shag rug, check. Touches of brass, check. Oversized floor lamp, check. Era bar stools for a pop of color, check.

I have the shag rug and just added the jumbo floor lamp from Target to my family room–love it. Such a statement with its big scale.

As a side note, we also saw another movie over the holidays–Inside Llewyn Davis–but I wasn’t a huge fan. I love the Coen brothers, and yes, I got the whole melancholy, art film thing and appreciated the good dialog, but I thought it was boring…granted I had a huge dinner and two glasses of wine a half hour before the movie started, but I wouldn’t have fallen asleep in American Hustle.

  1. So fun to see a full view of her apartment — I didn’t realize that the 70’s could be so chic! Loved the inspiration photos and how to get the same look today. Also completely agree with you about the movie — loved it! Now if I could only figure out how to talk my husband into wearing those Bradley Cooper hair curlers…that ‘fro was the BEST!
