Yesterday, I headed down to the city to chase a Craig’s List find. My friend Jessica had sent me a listing for a gorgeous vintage buffet. I’ve been looking for something for my dining room. I found myself in a warehouse surrounded by furniture piled to the ceiling. Two amazing Danish teak sideboards caught my eye and I had visions of refinishing them in my basement…then my phone rang, my babysitter was calling to tell me one of the kids was sick and I should come home and back to reality…no refinishing for me for a while!
BTW, the piece I went down for was gorgeous, but the price way too high. If it’s half that price in a week it’ll be mine, but not before then! On the way home, I had the chance to stop by a little store in the Andersonville neighborhood that I’ve had on my “to check out” list for years–yes, seriously years…how does that happen?! (Oh yeah, see above…) White Attic refinishes vintage furniture and they do it really well.
Terry, the owner, was there and he has an amazing eye (plus, he’s a really nice guy.) A lot of what you’ll see is mid century modern, but if that’s normally not your taste, don’t let that stop you from visiting White Attic. Recently, they launched their own furniture line and the look and construction is beautiful.
You can’t help but notice all the gorgeous lamps around. Terry’s created this amazing concept called the Lamp Bar. It’s easy–pick a base, pick a color, pick a shade, pick a fabric for a customized lamp perfect for you.
The inventory at White Attic turns over regularly and you can check out everything they have in stock here. Real estate agents listen up–forget the thank-you-for-your-business bottle of champagne at closing, instead, give a Lamp Bar gift card (or of course, a Two Inspire Design consultation!) One of many great design-related shops in Andersonville worth checking out if you live in Chicago or are visiting!
Looks like I may have to check White Attic out soon…
