Two Perspectives on Breakfast Nook Redesign

Feeling completely inspired by the photos we posted yesterday about our friend Linnea’s breakfast nook, we decided to take it a step further and put together a couple of design boards. Below is how we’d actually recommend L. executing based on the inspiration photos.  Both of us tried to pick items that are readily available and have similar versions at different budget levels so if something below is a little out of budget, there is always a good, cheaper alternative and we’re always happy to you help find it!

A reminder of what the space looks like currently:

My goal was to create a warm, comfortable multi-use space that would reflect the fun family that lives in the house and be transitional enough in style to accommodate  future changes in the kitchen since they have yet to renovate. A new built-in bookcase provides storage and eclectic furnishings give the nook new personality and a “collected” feeling. While the table from Room & Board is on the higher end, it is American made and solid wood–that being said, you can definitely get simple, mid-century styled tables at places like IKEA and Cost Plus World Market, and often well-priced originals at thrift stores or on Craig’s List.

Amy’s Design

I wanted to create a gathering space for a family with three children that would be durable, kid-friendly and most importantly, comfortable.  I wanted to keep the space light and happy so I chose an overall color scheme of cool colors with a little brightness brought in through throw pillows; a hammered nickel pendant adds a dash of glam.  The most expensive item in the plan are the Eames chairs. These chairs are timeless, durable, comfortable for any shape and size and most importantly, so easy to keep clean. In my mind, worth the investment.
