A friend recently asked me to give her some direction on how to carve out a “Man’s Space” in their house. She wanted to make a space in her basement that would satisfy both her and her husband. Her biggest struggle is getting overwhelmed shopping at several stores trying to make everything go together, while at the same time creating an unique look. While Tessa and I strongly believe you don’t want it to look like it all came from the same store we both realize that for some people it’s much easier if it comes from the same place. That’s why I LOVE Crate and Barrel, because they mix contemporary and traditional decor so you can create a unique look all at one store.
Here are a few items I suggested to create that perfect “Man’s Space”, but keep the wife happy, too!
These three pillows would be great together.
A perfect bar cart in a beautiful bronze to store all of his liqour for poker night!
These bowls don’t look too feminine but add a touch of style to the room. I love these and think they would be a perfect accesory to any bookshelf.
Crate and Barrel has some really great inexpensive pieces of art that are framed beautifully.
This chair looks masculine but would make any wife happy too!
I adore this chair and I can’t image a “Man’s Cave” or a den without a touch of plaid. Most men love recliners but picking a chair with a wide ottoman looks better and is just as comfortable.
This great looking table could be a console or a desk.
So cute AND it has a hidden drawer!!!
And a beautiful rug to pull the whole room together.
So, while you don’t want a room to look like it was plucked from a catalog, if it’s easier for you don’t be afraid to buy all your base items from one great store–you can then always add decorative and more personal details later as time and budget (and energy!) allows!
