Million Dollar Decorators

Anyone else addicted to the Real Housewives of LA? I mean, Million Dollar Decorators on Bravo. They’re kind of the same thing though–lots of money and lots of drama and oh so good.

So, last week was the premiere and since I was in Mexico with my family, I just watched in on the DVR. No disappointments…still over the top! LOVE!

My favorite designer on the show is Martyn Lawrence Bullard. I love his rich use of texture and color. Must say though, the dining room he did was a little too much for me. Amy and I had a chance to meet him last year at a book signing and he was so nice–answered questions, took pictures, was so courteous and open.

Before, it was a playroom (check out the gorgeous moldings)

And after it was a 70s inspired dining room

Imagine the difficulty of getting that 3,000 pound marble table into a NYC apartment building…

I do like the room he did for the same client’s daughter. Love the hanging pendant and the use of vibrant colors, mix of furniture and different textures.

If I’m going to criticize (and I’m sorry, Martyn, because I really do love you!!) but it kind of feels like all the furniture is against one wall. I love a loft bed, but this room seems big enough that it’s not really necessary. The left side of the room just seems so bare in comparison to the right. I’m sure he wanted to keep those nice big windows open, but I would have preferred to see a nice desk near the window–there still would have been room for a sitting/lounging area.

Ok, while I’m being a critic (I know, what gives me the right, right??)  I also didn’t love Mary’s guest house project.

Here are a couple of after shots

Really not a fan of that sitting area. I know a guest house should be neutral, but this is a little boring for me–kind of like walking into a show house that is pretty, but lacks personality. What do you think?

Ok, have to go watch tonight’s episode! We’re going to take tomorrow off to eat our weight in turkey and mashed potatoes, but don’t forget you can still win design services from us, just visit Monday’s post and leave a comment. We’ll be announcing a winner on Friday.

Our very best to all of you celebrating Thanksgiving!
