Red Interiors

It wouldn’t be the holiday season without a post on red decor.  Yesterday Tessa showed us some great rooms with green and I must say I was definitely envious! When I started my search on red interiors I really didn’t think I would find many spaces that I liked. You would have a better chance of finding red in Tessa’s house than in mine so coming up with some inspiration was daunting. It’s not that I don’t like red, it’s just that I tend to gravitate toward cooler colors and red seems so bold to me. Nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised by the rooms below…

Such a clean, crisp kitchen and then wham those bold, red chairs and mirror add a punch!

Red

I love, love, love this couch and pillow combination.  I think the red works in this room because the large scale windows allow lots of natural light and all that white trim and neutral sofa balances the red.

I just about giggled with delight when I saw this room. How adorable are these stripes???  I love the blue and gray pairing and once again, it’s not too much red but bold enough to make a statement. Plus, this is the kind of decor that looks great in a nursery and then carries the child through their younger years.

I have mixed feelings about the room below…I think the orange and red pairing work, but I don’t love the paintings on the wall because they’re a different shade of orangey red that clashes a little with the rest of the palette. Everything else seems to mesh together and create a nice balance and I like that they didn’t use red or orange in the curtains.  I also love the two different pieces of furniture serving as a coffee table.  Nice idea!

If you like the orange and red combination then you will LOVE this bedroom.  While the accent color is mostly orange, they added a nice pop of red through a pillow and the painting.  The gold sconces are beautiful with these warm colors.

This bedroom is me! Love, the gold frames and all white room and then a punch of color. Perfection! This rather monochromatic room would have not had quite the same impact if they had tried using any other color at the end of the bed. The photo gallery above the bed is great inspiration for a nice layout without being too busy. Notice the large mats are key to pulling off this gallery.

And finally, red is such a playful color and it’s great for playrooms. These chairs really make the room and give a great jolt to an otherwise monochromatic space. Great addition!

So, like green, don’t fear red and remember it really goes with any color in moderation. Who knows, maybe it will make an future appearance in my own home.
