Tessa’s Home Resolutions for 2013

This year, I was going to resolve to just be happy with my house as it is, to not take on any more projects and just be content with where I’ve gotten. But, like every single one of my personal resolutions (yup, that 10 lbs is still there!) I’m throwing this one out in the first week of January. So, instead, I’m going to resolve to actually finish the projects I’ve already started!

So, in no particular order, here’s what I want to accomplish in my house in 2013…

1. Complete updates in my kitchen. You may remember the before and afters of my kitchen that I posted way back in May. Well, I’d like to complete that project by putting in a new backsplash. Right now, it’s a dark glass tile, but I’d like to lighten things up and use a classic marble either in herringbone pattern or subway tile.

2. Create a nice, bright office space for myself–something fresh and modern with a touch of femininity. With the baby coming (yikes less than two months away!!) my old office on our second floor (where all our bedrooms are) is getting turned into a nursery so over the holidays, everything came out of that room, it was painted and all the junk from my office was moved to a smaller room on our third floor.

So, I’d like to turn this space (currently being painted…obviously!)…

3. Organize my back entry! We use our back door all the time and it opens up directly into our family room/kitchen area. Right now, I have a console that is overflowing with hats, gloves, boots shoved under it, key drop, etc. We need a better solution–whether it’s just adding more baskets to our existing console or actually trying to find a place to do a built-in.

4. Finally, I want to focus on adding some decorative details to my house. For example, adding a cushion to my living room couch–something I’ve had planned FOREVER to add a little pick-me-up to the room. I also want to add a roman shade to my laundry room to give it a little more color. I was going to buy a bamboo shade or something similarly cheap off Overstock, but then I saw this tutorial on Young House Love and I’m committed to doing a couple of roman shades on the cheap with a fabric I actually like–obviously in rooms where they don’t have to be functional!

On a personal level, like I said I’m not great at resolutions. If I took on Amy’s resolution, I’d take like three pictures and then it would be done. That being said, I’ve decided that I’m going to try to cut down on the clutter in my life–I really don’t need 20 different eye shadows and lipsticks (seriously, I barely make it into the shower every day!) I’m also going to try to stop piling papers everywhere–my husband calls me “Messy Tessy” for all the piles I have on the kitchen counter, stairs…and the list goes on.

There you have it!

  1. Good luck Tessa! I love your resolutions-especially getting rid of excess clutter.
Can’t wait to hear baby news in a few short weeks. 🙂
