Get the Look: Sally Armstrong’s Reno

Yesterday, we featured Canadian House & Home editor Sally Armstrong’s recently renovated home. Thought it would be fun to try to recreate the look of these three rooms:

House & Home

And, here’s how you can get a similar look in your own home…

Get the Look: House & Home Feb 2012 "Diary of a Reno"

1. Clean, contemporary lines are central to the look. Armstrong’s plush sofa was gorgeous, but this putty grey one from Cost Plus World Market (currently on sale for under $800!) is a good alternative and the round, tribal table from West Elm works perfectly with the shape of the sofa.

2. I love Etsy for finding affordable artwork and pillows. These pillows are so close to the inspiration shot, but I’m sure at a fraction of the price. The artwork I found on Etsy (these two desert flower and sea waves are perfect) is very similar to those pieces found in the family room and dining room of Armstrong’s home–strong, simple, organic. The great thing about Etsy is that you can contact the artists directly to arrange for custom sizes, thoughts on framing, etc.

3. Ok, so a sheepskin on a kitchen stool isn’t all that practical, but it does look cool and cozy. These $29 versions from IKEA on stools from Overstock.com are dead ringers for the inspiration shot of Armstrong’s kitchen.

4. Finally, in the dining room, the clean lines continue with a parsons table and simple bistro-style chairs. I actually decided to keep the same Design Within Reach chairs as Armstrong has in her home because at $150 a piece they’re a relatively affordable way to bring quality, designer pieces into your home. These pendant lights from World Market are a different shape than the inspiration ones, but they have the same fun little surprise on the inside…a brass colored interior. A bright red credenza adds fun to the space.

Like I said yesterday, whenever I read House & Home, a thousand ideas start flying around my head!
