Get the Look: Rustic Modern Dining Room

You know that one of our favorite looks for dining rooms is a mixture of rustic and modern. We were searching for lighting for a client’s home and came across this picture. Gorgeous right? A perfect balance of rustic/traditional and modern.

Here’s how I would recreate this dining room:

Get the Look- Rustic Modern Dining Room

A rustic wood table from World Market (1) grounds the space. Because it doesn’t have the grey undertones of the inspiration shot, I chose a greige tone for the walls (2) in Anew Gray by Sherwin Williams (Benjamin Moore’s Rockport Grey is another rick greige color) to pull a little more grey into the room.

I’m in love with this Bling Chandelier by Robert Abbey. At about $1700, this large version would definitely be a splurge though (well worth it in my mind!) so I’ve chosen a replica from Overstock.com (3) for the design. The size is much smaller, so I would recommend hanging two above this large table.

For the chairs, a clean, modern acrylic chair (4) is the perfect contrast to the heavy table. IKEA has a more affordable version called the TOBIAS, but with chrome legs–a good alternative. The inspiration shot brings in a pop of color in a raspberry paint. Instead, I’d choose to mix up the chairs by choosing two upholstered chairs in a fun, bright contemporary pattern. This just adds to the eclectic feeling of the room. Unfortunately this particular chair from Anthropologie is no longer available, but you could reupholster a couple of old chairs with this fabric –  Braemore Journey Fruitty – for a similar look. (As a side note, this ikat fabric would also make an amazing headboard fabric!)

The problem with this line of work is that I’m constantly discovering new things that make me second guess the decisions I’ve made in my own home. Now I want this look! Do you like the mix of rustic and contemporary pieces? BTW, as I wrote this post, I was sitting on my couch watching Bravo and eating Garrett’s popcorn…I think I overdosed on caramel/cheese combo and am now headed to bed feeling sick. Another issue with this line of work I guess…
