Great Source for Mirrors: Wisteria

I love getting magazines and catalogs in the mail–I often feel guilty about the waste of paper, but it reminds me of stores that I sometimes forget about when I’m doing online searches for products. Wisteria is one such place. I got a catalog recently and was reminded of how great their mirror selection is and reasonably priced too!

Check out some of my favorites:

The shape of this mirror is my favorite shape to see in an entry way or powder room.

A venetian mirror is perfection in a powder room painted a dark color.

Some might think the chevron pattern is played out a bit too much these days but I disagree when it comes to seeing the pattern on a mirror.

It is so hard to find a round, simple mirror and this one is just that.  I would love to see this simple mirror on a fireplace mantel.  So simple and natural looking. round mirror

Or, I love how Wisteria has the above mirror hung off to the side of framed pieces of art.  Definitely something to think about when decorating your walls.

A bone mirror still makes me happy when I see one.  I could see this one in a hallway, office space, baby or girls room.

Still love this traditional rectangular mirror.  I bought one at Pottery Barn a few years ago and still love it.  It looks great paired with distressed wood.  Perfect mirror for a bedroom with some glam!

Don’t forget to look online for coupons before ordering.

Desk in the Bedroom a Do or a Don’t?

Every sleep expert agrees–get your work out of your bedroom so the bedroom is no place for a desk. But, let’s face it, they say that about the TV too and how many of us fall asleep to that every night?? Plus, for many of us, it’s just a necessary evil since we might not have another private/quiet space to do our work. So, if you are going to do it, here are some ideas…

A window is always a great place under which to put a desk–that way when you are working in your bedroom, you’re looking outside and not at your bed!

With limited space, you could have a side table play double duty as a desk…but let’s be honest, you could get a laptop on here and not much else so not for the serious home worker!

This little mini parsons desk from PB Teen would make a great bedside table/desk solution for a small room

Sometimes you really do need a little more working space so a corner (that would likely go otherwise unused) is a good solution

This is a practical use of a smaller closet (as long as you don’t need it for clothes) that essentially creates a small office in your bedroom–you see a lot of inspiration shots like this for kids’ rooms, but nice to see it could work for adults too!

Hey, maybe your work will be so boring that it will actually lull you to sleep and you can prove all those experts wrong!

Ideas for Boys Sharing a Room

Happy first day of Spring! I would love to say the weather in Chicago is matching that…I refuse to get the new baby a snowsuit so this weather better change soon! Anyway, on to design…A few weeks ago, I did a post on shared rooms for girls and showcased the darling bedroom of a friend’s two little girls. Don’t worry boys, we’ve got you covered too!

I like the simplicity of this room and the storage under each bed.

My only change would be to do a task lamp for each child on the cube behind the beds–maybe like this one from West Elm in bright yellow to add a little color and bring out the yellow in the poufs.

I’ve said it before…I’m a little obsessed with maps…so I adore this feature wall. And, I hate to be redundant, but I’d consider two of the lamps above for the room below as well!

Here’s an example of what I mean by two industrial-style task lights used on one side table so that each child can control his own lighting. Adding to the thoughts of my post last week on alternatives to headboards, the photo below makes me think you could easily use two old doors painted a fun color behind a bed frame!

Orange and navy (well, navy and anything these days) is a favorite combination–and I MUST find where those lucite nesting tables are from!

I love stripes on bed linens and these grey duvet covers in the home of Project Nursery co-founder Melisa Fuhr are ones I’ve been eyeing for my son Conor’s room–West Elm sells a twin and it’s one sale right now! The gallery wall behind the beds is a great way to display the boys’ artwork.

This has always been one of my favorite boys’ rooms–love the use of space for storage and the little personalized stools to get up to the beds–oh, and of course that grass cloth wallpaper is perfection for a beachy look without being themey. You can see other pics from this house here.

Lots of good ideas…now if only they came with someone who would actually keep them this tidy!
