Remember when Tessa featured her kitchen–gave it a little lift with some new hardware, lights and paint? I think one of the biggest ‘wow’ but low cost renovations you can do is to change lighting throughout your house–it’s a great way to really personalize your space and update it. I have changed every light fixture in my house since moving in but I had a few that were still haunting me…
The 90’s called and they want their light fixture back (along with the scrunchies worn by all those Olympic gymnasts!) Not only did I have one of these but I had a total of FOUR of these. Two in the master bath and two in the kids’ bath. It wasn’t a problem for me to find light fixtures that I wanted such as these:
But, at 119.00 a piece, I would be spending 476.00 BEFORE taxes. I just couldn’t justify spending that much.
But the closer I looked at the Pottery Barn Lights and then at my light fixture, I realized what I really liked was the milk-white shade and that my chrome light fixture might not be the problem..maybe it was just the shade.
So I headed off to Vogue Lighting to see what I could find. I was in luck! I found white-milk shades for only 8.00 a piece! I could spend 64.00 and achieve a similar look. I was thrilled and my husband was even MORE thrilled.
Check out the result:
Here’s a side by side shot so you can get a better look at the older shade vs. newer shade
Maybe I should remove the sticker as well…..
And here is the finished product:
Oh, how this photo makes me so happy! Even the littlest upgrades can make a big difference.
So before you go replacing that whole fixture, think about a quick and easy change of the shades…the same can apply to a very traditional lamp and lamp shade.
good advice!
