Accessorizing a Desk

I will use any excuse not to get work done. In fact, I pile my desk high with papers just to avoid sitting down at it! But, as I mentioned in January, one of my resolutions for 2013 is to get my office organized. Part of that, is making it a fun place; making sure there’s a place that I’m excited about sitting down and working. (For instance, I’m writing this sitting at my dining room table because I can’t see my desk upstairs in my office–this has got to change!)

So, I’m now on the search for some good inspiration photos for desks….

How fun is this?!  So bright and girly. Or, this serene black and white desk–always a great idea to just post up some photos you love and will inspire you every day. I also like the small lamp that helps keep things so simple and clean looking.

On the other hand, if you have a small desk, don’t feel obligated to go for a small lamp–this larger lamp works because it has an open feel to it

As always, trays are a great way to wrangle different items–put random things on a tray and they suddenly make sense!

This is a great way to keep key documents, photos (or fabric samples!) right in front of you. Also wrangling pens and pencils doesn’t have to be complicated–recycle a few simple, but good looking bottles!

As a side note, I found this photo by the same designer as above that I thought was pretty inspirational. This looks like a garage space that was transformed into a really pretty office with simple folding tables and some shelves and frames–so easy and affordable!

If you’re more like me and you know you won’t keep a desk nice and clean looking, go for one that has big drawers you can just dump everything into and hide it all behind closed drawers! This desk by Jill Sorensen is a good example of how you could double an entry console as a desk/work area. This pic is also a good reminder that your chair is an accessory you can play with as well.

Ok, no time to pull any more pics–baby screaming at the top of his lungs (so much for sleeping through the night…)
